Background In 2001, CSAT expanded its efforts and conducted several focus group meetings with faith-based and grassroots organizations to identify and eliminate regulatory and programmatic barriers that hinder the delivery of effective treatment and equal opportunity to some groups competing for Federal funding and support. Some of these barriers include: inadequate financial systems for handling the funding award; lack of access to Federal grant information and the complexity of grant applications and grant agreements. The outgrowth of these meetings was the identification of Technical Assistance (TA) as a critical factor to the success of faith-based and grassroots community organizations in their efforts to successfully compete for grant funds and deliver quality treatment services in their communities. To this end, SAMHSA is sponsoring TA and training workshops to assist with the development of grant proposals and programs that provide relevant information about grant writing, grantmanship techniques, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS. The TA and training will enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of eligible applicants to develop a competitive grant application and effectively serve their communities. One-on-one TA will be provided during the workshops where participants will have the opportunity to speak with instructors and receive the assistance necessary to be successful. Workshops will also provide a forum for networking and a platform to ask questions about the grant application process. The locations and dates of the workshop are as follows: Faith-Based and Community Partners Fund Development Project (For HIV/AIDS programs) January 24-26, 2006 - San Antonio, TX Riverwalk Plaza Hotel 100 Villita Street San Antonio, TX 78205 February 7-9, 2006 - Los Angeles, CA Double Tree Santa Monica 1707 Fourth Street Santa Monica, March 28-30, 2006 - Atlanta, GA DoubleTree Hotel 3342 Peachtree Road NE Atlanta, GA 30326 Faith-Based and Community Partners Intensive Grantwriting Workshops (For Access to Recovery substance abuse programs) January 31-February 1, 2006 - Albuquerque, NM Wyndham Albuquerque Hotel 2910 Yale Blvd SE Albuquerque, NM 87106 February 21-February 22, 2006 - Los Angeles, CA Double Tree Santa Monica 1707 Fourth Street Santa Monica, CA 90401 March 7-8, 2006 - Houston, TX Hilton Houston Hobby Airport 8181 Airport Boulevard Houston, TX 77061 April 5-6, 2006 - Nashville, TN Sheraton Downtown 623 Union Street Nashville, TN 37219 April 25-26, 2006 - Chicago, IL Ambassador East 1301 North State Parkway Chicago, Illinois 60610 May 16-18, 2006 - West Palm Beach, FL Crowne Plaza West Palm Beach 1601 Belvedere Road West Palm Beach, FL 33406 Technical Assistance Ongoing sustainability Technical Assistance is available to Training Workshop Partners by the experienced TA Team Sheila Harley, Esq., MSW Stephen Broyles, MPH, MSW Shawn Davis, MS Ernestine Coghill-Howard Rev.
